As part of Canada Reads 2021, I was commissioned by the CBC to create an animated trailer for the selected novel “Jonny Appleseed” by Joshua Whitehead. Jonny Appleseed is a novel about a two-spirit Indigiqueer young man who leaves the reserve and becomes a cybersex worker in the big city to make ends meet. But he must reckon with his past when he returns home to attend his stepfather’s funeral. The book went on to win Canada Reads 2021, and the trailer was broadcast on CBC’s social channels, as well as nationally on TV.
